In March 2022, destiny led me to St. Claret PU College, Jalahalli, where I was assigned as an external examiner for the Physics Practical exam. It was on that very day that I had the privilege of meeting the principal of the institution, Rev. Fr. Sojan K. Abraham. A tall and dynamic personality, Father Sojan had already been leading the institution with wisdom and dedication for nearly a decade.
During our brief conversation, he inquired about my background and mentioned that he would reach out if a vacancy arose for a Physics faculty member. To my great fortune, that very year, an opportunity presented itself, and in May 2022, I joined St. Claret PU College as a Physics faculty member.
Throughout my career, I had never shared a particularly strong bond with the principals I worked under. However, Father Sojan was an exception. From the very beginning, he instilled a deep sense of confidence in me, stating at the time of my appointment, "I am recruiting you because I have high confidence in you." His words were not just reassuring but also served as a great motivator.
One of the most remarkable aspects of working with Father Sojan was his open-mindedness and unwavering support. No matter what new ideas I brought to him, he never turned them down, always encouraging innovation and progress. Beyond our professional relationship, we shared lighter moments filled with singing and dancing, outings, and dinners. These experiences created a bond of comradeship that made working with him truly enjoyable.
One of the most unforgettable moments was when Father invited me to his home in Pala, Kerala, for a vacation. Spending two days with him in his hometown was an experience that I will cherish forever. Our trip to Vagamon, a picturesque hill station in Kerala, was one of the many highlights of our journey. Those moments, filled with joy and adventure, further strengthened the bond I shared with him.
Now, as Father Sojan embarks on a new journey in New Zealand, it is with a heavy heart that we bid him farewell. In just three short years, he has left an indelible mark on my life, making it feel as though we have known each other for a lifetime. His leadership, kindness, and unwavering support have not only shaped me as a teacher but also as an individual.
Thank you, Father, for everything you have done for me and for all the wonderful memories we have shared. You will always be remembered with great respect and admiration. Wishing you all the best in your new role and hoping that our paths cross again in the future!
